Lady Gaga dedicated a performance to Asian American hairstylist, Frederic Aspiras. Frederic is of Vietnamese and Filipino descent and has styled Gaga’s hair and designed her wigs for nearly 15 years. See the moment below and what Frederic had to say in his own post.
Baby, I Was Born This Way! … We were all born this way! Tonights show in San Francisco, my hometown, is probably hands down the best show of my entire career! I grew not very far away from @oraclepark in the Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhood. Every weekend since I was 13 years old my mother & I would drive by that park on the way to her hair salon. We would always have talks about my dreams and what she would pray and hope for my future. We wouldn’t talk about my sexuality but rather who I was to become as a person one day! She always believed in me when I didn’t have the bravery to do so myself. She always told me that I had a special gift and that one day I would help change peoples lives. I didn’t know how or what she meant really until now. I still to this day remember those times. I miss her still very much and will always remember us that way.
@ladygaga you wrote Born This Way for so many LGBTQ+ people just like me. And tonight as you sung out every single word I became myself again. I was lost after losing my mom but now I see the amazing grace. It’s a true testament to how powerful those very words are “Born This Way”. You’ve changed not only my life but so many. I love you to the moon and back.
Tonight I got my wish I prayed for as a kid. My 360 moment. This shy, weird, misunderstood, determined Asian kid with very humble beginnings. I wanted nothing more than to be heard and seen. Respected and loved just for who I am. I hope and pray for anyone out there who doesn’t know or don’t care to define who they are to be ok with who they want to be. I hope this moment I’m sharing gives you the courage and desire to keep fighting for what you believe in! Like Lady Gaga said tonight and every night at the show you will soon find who you are! Be proud, be loving, be brave and most of all be kind to your yourself and your mind. (Look Mom, I finally made it back home!!!)
I love you. ❤️
