More than 13 Asian elders were brutally attacked and/or robbed in Oakland in one week; report says the victim count is actually closer to 30

In an exclusive report by ABC7, at least 13 Asian elders at the Westlake Christian Terrace assisted living facility have been brutally attacked and/or robbed in a mere week. According to Sister Marie Taylor, president of the Westlake Christian Terrace resident council, the number of victims, all Asian elders, is actually closer to 30. Many cases are not reported due to shame or fear.

"Not only do you grab their purse but you beat them brutally, Sister Marie Taylor said. “We had several who had to be taken to the emergency, one broke the wrist. We had police here almost 7 hours filing reports. Then it continued on Sunday with more. Multiple residents being attacked."

More than 700 residents live at the Westlake Christian assisted living facility with an average age of 85. One of the victims has Alzheimers and could not grasp what was happening when she was being attacked.

According to ABC7, Oakland Police have made several key arrests because several of the victims have reported their attacks and they urge others to come forward as well.
