Mother reports teacher for making her daughter eat alone because of “smelly” and “foreign” foods

In a viral Reddit post, the mother of a six-year-old second-grader says that she reported her daughter’s teacher for making her daughter eat alone.
The mother said her daughter, who is Asian, “didn’t want her packed lunches anymore and [wanted] to eat what the other kids were eating.”
As the mother continued to probe, her daughter revealed that she was unable to sit with the other students, saying that her teacher forced her to sit in another room by herself during lunch because of her “smelly foods.”
The mother says the teacher denied making her daughter sit in another room but the daughter’s best friend confirmed her daughter’s account. After another teacher confirmed that she had seen the six-year-old student eating alone, the teacher at the center of the complaint said it was because the student had a persimmon and it was distracting to other students who thought she was eating a tomato. The teacher didn’t want her distracting other students by having what was considered “foreign food.”
In another incident, the six-year-old said she was forced to eat in another room because she was eating tomato egg stir fry; a boy was bullying her because he thought it looked like blood, and instead of reprimanding him, the teacher sent the girl to eat alone.
Ultimately, the mother reported the teacher and had her daughter moved to another homeroom for the remainder of the school year, but only after the teacher refused to admit she had done anything wrong.
