‘Shōgun’ makes history with a record-breaking 18 Emmy wins
‘Shōgun’ just made history with a record-breaking 18 Emmy wins — the most for any show in a single year. After already winning 14 Creative Arts Emmys, the show won another four last night including Best Drama Series, Best Actress in a Drama Series (Anna Sawai), and Best Actor in a Drama Series (Hiroyuki Sanada).
On this night, ‘Shōgun’ became the first majority non-English show to win in the Drama Series category. Additionally, Anna and Hiroyuki became the first Japanese actors to ever win Emmys, per The Hollywood Reporter.
After his win, Hiroyuki spoke to The Hollywood Reporter saying, “As far as the next generation, I hope they see a lot of meaning in our nominations and wins and just understand that we created a period Japanese series that really connected with the world.”
