YOSHIKI releases new music documentary, “YOSHIKI: Under the Sky”
YOSHIKI’s musicality is as versatile as it gets. He is a composer, classically-trained pianist, rock drummer, and the leader of the rock groups X Japan and The Last Rockstars. Billboard has described him as “a musical innovator.” Among his many accolades, Yoshiki is the first Japanese artist to be honored with a hand and footprint ceremony at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood since the tradition began in 1927.
Outside of his music endeavors, Yoshiki has had other notable firsts. In 2009, Yoshiki became the first living person to have a Hello Kitty doll named after him, aptly named "Yoshikitty." And in 2017, Yoshiki became the first Japanese male to star on the cover of Vogue Japan.
One to stay busy, Yoshiki just launched his new champagne brand in the U.S., Y by Yoshiki x Champagne Pommery, while also wrapping his tour, Yoshiki Classical 10th Anniversary World Tour with Orchestra 2023 "REQUIEM." After headlining shows at Tokyo Garden Theater (Tokyo), Royal Albert Hall (London), Dolby Theater (L.A.), and Carnegie Hall (New York), Yoshiki became the first Japanese artist to headline all of these historic venues.
Now, Yoshiki is focused on the global release of his new music documentary, YOSHIKI: Under the Sky. Shot in Germany, Beijing, Tokyo, and LA, the film features interviews and performances from a long list of acclaimed artists including Sarah Brightman (UK), Nicole Scherzinger (USA), St. Vincent (USA), Scorpions (Germany), The Chainsmokers (USA), HYDE (Japan), SUGIZO (Japan), SixTONES (Japan), Jane Zhang (China), and Lindsey Stirling (USA). The film had its U.S. theatrical release in November and is set to release in U.K. theaters starting December 1.
