China’s He Bingjiao won silver in the badminton women’s singles at the Paris Olympics; honors Spain’s Carolina Marin at the victory ceremony after she had to forfeit due to an injury

🥈 Congratulations to China's He Bingjiao for winning silver in the badminton women’s singles at the Paris Olympics. In addition to this accomplishment, netizens from China to Spain and elsewhere are praising He because of her display of sportsmanship.

At the victory ceremony, He held up Spain’s Olympic pin to honor her semi-final opponent, Spain’s Carolina Marin. Marin had to forfeit her semi-final due to an injury which allowed He to advance to the gold medal match.

“I wore the Spanish badge on the podium because yesterday’s semi-final opponent was unfortunately injured. I am very heartbroken,” He said. “I hope she can see this scene and I wish her a speedy recovery.”

Marin thanked He in a statement saying, “I wished He Bingjiao all the best in the final, because sportsmanship was above all else. But the moment on the podium is one of the loveliest gestures anyone has ever made to me and I will always be incredibly grateful to her.”

✨ He Bingjiao = true class and sportsmanship!
