"Crying in H Mart" film adaptation to be directed by Will Sharpe of "The White Lotus"

According to People, Will Sharpe is set to direct the film adaptation of the New York Times best selling memoir, “Crying in H Mart.”

Sharpe is most recently known for his role as Ethan on season two of The White Lotus. Prior to this, Sharpe received acclaim for his writing, directing, and acting in “Flowers,” as well as his acting in “Giri/Haji” which he won a BAFTA Television Award for Best Supporting Actor. 

Sharpe is of Japanese and British descent and was raised in Tokyo until the age of eight.

"There were lots of things that resonated with me as somebody who is half-Japanese, half-British, spent my childhood in Tokyo," he says of the book. "Some of the descriptions of being jet-lagged in your family's kitchen felt very familiar to me."

“Crying in H Mart” was written by Michelle Zauner. The film is being produced by Stacey Sher and Jason Kim.
