Many experts believe the next Pope will be Asian
Cardinal Bishop Luis Antonio Tagle, who prefers to go by his nickname “Chito,” is largely considered the frontrunner to succeed Pope Francis.
Cardinal Chito was born in the Philippines and is of Filipino and Chinese descent. He is fluent in Tagalog, English, and Italian — and proficient in reading Spanish, French, Korean, and Latin.
Dubbed the “Asian Francis,” Cardinal Chito has similar ideologies as Pope Francis. Both oppose abortion but advocate for more compassion for migrants, the poor, LGBTQ+ communities, divorcees, and single mothers.
