Official GoFundMe launched for Asian woman who was punched more than 125 times
Earlier this month, a 67-year-old Asian (Filipina) woman was attacked in Yonkers, New York. The attacker followed her, and then proceeded to punch her more than 125 times, stomped/kicked her seven times, and spat on her.
An official fundraiser has been launched. I’ve been in touch with the law firm who is representing the family (Paul, Weiss) and they’ve confirmed the authenticity of the GoFundMe. The family let me know via their representation that they do not wish to share any photos or their names. The photo in this post is for illustrative purposes only.
I also asked how the family will receive the funds, and their representation said, “We are discussing with the family how best to set up a financial vehicle for them to receive the funds. And no funds will be transferred until that vehicle is set up — as you may know, the GoFundMe process allows for 90 days before the funds are transferred to a verified bank account.”
The GoFundMe includes a letter from the survivor’s family that says:
“On March 11, our mom, a hardworking 67-year-old Filipina woman, was assaulted in front of her own home.
In this despicable, unprovoked attack, she suffered serious head trauma and internal injuries. She is currently stable and out of the hospital, but has extensive injuries that requires constant outpatient care. It’s a miracle that she’ll be able to make a full recovery, but it will be a long journey and we don't know when she'll be able to go back to work.
Her attacker was our neighbor and lived in her building. She will have to move to ensure her safety as she cannot continue living in her home, apartment building, or neighborhood.
We want to protect our mother any way we can, so we ask to stay anonymous so that she can focus on her recovery without being bombarded by the media or having more fears for her safety.
We are grateful for the outpouring of love for our mom and any support you're willing to contribute to her medical bills, rehabilitation and mental health services, and move to a new home.”
🙏 Please share, and click here to donate if you’re able to.
