Olivia Munn shares her journey with breast cancer and postpartum anxiety
In a candid and revealing interview with People, Olivia Munn is sharing her journey with breast cancer and postpartum anxiety.
In May of 2023, Olivia was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer. “You realize cancer doesn’t care who you are; it doesn’t care if you have a baby or if you don’t have time,” she said to People. “It comes at you, and you have no choice but to face it head-on.”
Within 30 days of the diagnosis, Olivia made the difficult decision to undergo a lymph node dissection, a nipple delay procedure, and a double mastectomy.
This life-changing diagnosis came shortly after she gave birth to her first baby when she also dealt with postpartum anxiety. “Postpartum is really difficult, and I was not prepared for the kind of postpartum that I had,” Olivia told People. “I had heard of postpartum depression but I had never heard of postpartum anxiety.”
After all Olivia has been through in a short span of time, Olivia seems happy and grateful.
“I really just didn’t have a moment to catch my breath. I haven’t really felt like I’ve been back in the body that I knew before but that’s okay. It truly is. I feel so happy that I got myself through it. That if I have a few scars and dents, and bathing suits look different on me now, that’s okay. I’m proud of myself for what I went through. It’s a very profound journey to find out how much strength and resilience I have. It’s more than I thought I had.”
Olivia seems to have found a new mission in helping raise awareness about women’s healthcare issues.
“Knowing how many women have made calls to their doctors and taken these tests and trying to get in front of it has just really filled me with so much joy and happiness,” Olivia said. “That’s all I want, is for more women to be able to advocate for themselves.”
