Padma Lakshmi responds to restaurant critics who compared Michelin-starred Indian restaurant’s flavor to Wonder Bread

Semma is a restaurant in New York City that explores the heritage of Southern Indian cuisine. With a Michelin star and James Beard nomination for Best Chef (Vijay Kumar), reservations at the restaurant are nearly impossible to get.

Two restaurant critics known as the The VIP List recently visited Semma to review the restaurant and they weren’t impressed, comparing the Indian restaurant’s flavor to a “piece of Wonder Bread.”

The video caught the attention of 16-time Emmy-nominated media personality and author, Padma Lakshmi. “Semma isn’t made for you; it’s made for us,” Padma said. “And I’m pretty sure that if nobody but Desis went there for the rest of its existence, it would still be booked solid for the next decade.”
